Our larger pieces are generally sourced from burls, which are a rounded outgrowth on a tree trunk that is filled with small knots from dormant buds. These knots not only increase the strength of the wood, but after being professionally sanded and finished, create the visually stunning intricate grain-patterns that are highly sought after.
